Goth & Plaid - A Powerful Spring Look

Plaid is one of the most consistent fashion trends at all times. For spring, in particular, incorporating plaid into your outfits can be quite symbolic – as the winter leaves and the snow melts, the world slowly goes back to colourful days. For many people, those terms go hand in hand. But is it entirely correct? Fashion collections of different brands have shown us that the two go together most of the time, however, sometimes we call flannel plaid and vice versa which is not true, at the end of the day they’re different things.
Flannel is a very soft fabric made of cotton or wool. It is warm and perfect for early spring days when it’s slowly, but surely getting warmer. Yet, the winter temperature hasn’t completely gone away, so it’s good to be extra careful not to catch a cold before the warmer days approach.
Plaid is a name for a pattern of stripes of different colours and shades crossing each other, typically knitted or imprinted onto the material. It can be a simple pattern with just two colours, or it can be a more interesting one, incorporating several colours and stripe sizes.

G&G: the potent mix of goth and grunge

Plaid was huge in the ’90s, with many famous people like Alicia Silverstone and Hillary Clinton wearing the pattern on several occasions throughout the given decade. However, who brought plaid to the attention of the general public for good was Kurt Cobain himself.
Kurt and his band Nirvana were well known for grunge style tendencies in their career. It was as if they turned the term fashion and everything connected to it upside down – no items matched in size or texture, a mess of mixtures paired with ripped jeans. The word grunge was also highly used to describe their music as it became as huge as their style and had a great demand in the ’90s.
Goth fashion has also had a breakthrough during those times, and those two styles have walked hand in hand for about 30 years. Goth is in high demand all year long, and grunge tends to appear now and then in the fashion scene. Build your perfect outfit by pairing up various items of both of those styles, for example, an oversized flannel shirt with a black mini skirt or leggings for a nice contrast look. If you’re feeling extra, you can also add a pair of fishnets to it – not even one person at the party will be able to look away from you.

Plaid and the universal colours

The key point of the plaid is not the colour, but its pattern. There are several options and mixtures of plaid that you can incorporate into your gothic closet. Most plaid patterns come with a base of different shades of black or grey, and sometimes it’s both. That makes it easier to experiment with different outfits and pick what works best for you.
As winter fades away and you are looking for a lighter jacket, a lovely thin scarf, or a flannel to keep you warm enough for the late-night adventures. Still, it has to be revealing enough to be breathable, so it’s about time to stock up on some plaid shirts and long sleeve shirts. If the combination of black and white is not for your taste and you prefer to go as dark as possible, you can pick up some items of the black and grey gradients instead. Suppose you don’t want to go all out with plaid clothes. While it’s still quite chilly outside, you can add an excellent thin scarf for decoration purposes. You can see plaid scarves on the runways among the best designers quite often, and they’re such a fun way to add something new to your outfit!
But remember, if you wish to incorporate plaid patterns into your wardrobe, it doesn’t have to be exclusively scarves.
