Pastel goth keeps the structure, hardware and silhouettes of gothic dressing but renders them in lavender, mint, powder blue, dusty rose and ivory. The contrast between a soft colour and a hard shape is the entire idea. The rule is simple: keep the gothic shapes, change the colour.

Overbust, underbust, mesh and bridal corsets, dresses, mini and pleated skirts, wide leg pants, mesh tops, gloves, and a broad footwear range covering platform boots, ankle, mid-calf, knee high and thigh high boots, heels, lolita platforms and sandals.

Add something black and structural. Hardware, boots, mesh or straps. Most successful pastel goth outfits are roughly two-thirds pastel and one-third black, concentrated in the shoes, the hardware and one layering piece. Without a dark contrasting layer you have pastel clothing rather than pastel goth clothing.

Muted rather than bright: dusty rose rather than hot pink, sage rather than kelly green, powder blue rather than azure, lavender rather than purple. Ivory, cream, beige and camel all belong. Bright saturated colour breaks the aesthetic immediately, which is why the colour filter is the most useful one here.

Work from your natural waist measurement rather than your dress size, and check the boning type listed on the product page — steel boning holds its shape and lasts, plastic does not. A Custom Made corset is often the better decision, since one that fits properly is a different garment from one that nearly does.

Accessories. A choker, a pair of lace or mesh gloves and the right tights will convert clothes you already own into a coherent look for a fraction of the price of a new dress. Add a pair of black platform boots and almost anything in your wardrobe reads pastel goth.
