Sweet lolita is the softest and most decorative branch of lolita style: pastel palettes, ribbons and lace, rounded silhouettes and prints full of sweets, animals and fairy tales. The silhouette is precise — a fitted bodice, a defined waist and a bell-shaped skirt held out by a petticoat.

One dress or jumperskirt, one blouse, a petticoat, shoes and a piece of headwear. Headwear is not optional in a full coordinate — a headbow, headdress or bonnet is what signals an outfit is a coordinate rather than simply a dress.

A single-colour or small-print dress in pastel pink, cream, lavender or sky blue. It coordinates with far more blouses, socks and headwear than a large statement print does, which means it actually gets worn more than once. Save the big prints for when you have blouses to match them.

Lolita mary janes with a rounded toe and an instep strap are the classic and safest choice. Lolita platforms give a chunkier, sweeter proportion and lolita heels are the dressier option. Creepers, ankle boots, knee high boots, heels and sandals cover looser coordinates. Sizing varies by brand, so check each product page.

Take two or three colours from the print of your main piece and repeat them in your socks, headwear and shoes. That repetition is what makes a coordinate look finished rather than assembled. Black and deep pink work as accents against the pastel base rather than as the base itself.
