The rule that makes pink work rather than read as saccharine: keep the hardware dark. Black boots, black tights, a black choker, dark jewellery. Roughly two-thirds soft colour to one-third black is the proportion that holds, and it is why a dusty pink coat over an all-black outfit looks considerably better than a pink coat over a pink outfit.
